Majors & Minors
At Terra Dotta University, we produce more than just graduates -- we combine the theoretical with the practical to create innovators and leaders of tomorrow. With 12 colleges representing all major academic disciplines, a student population of more than 34,000 and nearly 2,000 faculty, Terra Dotta University is the largest university in North Carolina. It is also a global center of learning for some of the most important emerging technologies and new sciences now shaping the future of our world, including nanotechnology, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, and computer science. Our expertise in these groundbreaking areas is backed by historic strengths in agriculture, engineering, forestry, wood and paper sciences, textiles, veterinary medicine, and design.
We also provide a high-quality education in the humanities and social sciences, education, life sciences, management, mathematics, natural resources, and all the physical sciences. The breadth of our academic excellence is reflected in the strength of the TDU library system, which receives up to 14,000 visits a day from students and faculty using the 4.3 million volumes in its five libraries.
What sets us apart
We integrate the opportunists our world-class research programs offer to students into our degree track programs and emphasize innovation and on-the-job experience. Instruction at Terra Dotta University begins in the class room, but is almost always leads into the laboratories -- where students work side-by-side with leading researcher in their fields -- or to stages, galleries, and off-campus job internships and co-ops that expose students to real-world challenges and experiences. By the time most TDU students graduate, they have not only mastered their area of expertise, they have gained valuable job experience (and often job offers) and discovered the potential for inquiry and creativity within themselves.
