Athletics

At TDU we believe that to ensure our graduates are well-rounded, our students need to exercise more than just their brains! That is why we strongly encourage everyone of campus to join an intramural team, take a physical education class, play a varsity sport or simply enjoy one of our newly remodeled fitness centers.

CLUB & INTRAMURAL SPORTS

There is a wide variety of club and intramural sports teams to choose from and athletes of all ability levels are welcome to join. There is an exercise fair held every year in the Student Union on the first Thursday of classes. All club and intramural teams are represented at the fair and this is a great time to see your options. There are mens, womens, and co-ed club and intramural teams for sports such as: football, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, swimming, cross-country, tennis, field-hockey, fencing, crew, weight lifting, gymnastics and lacrosse.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASSES

Every student at TDU is required to take two physical education classes and pass a swimming test in order to graduate. Any student who is unsure of their ability to swim will need to choose a swimming class to fulfill one of their physical education requirements. There are over 100 different types of physical education classes offered each year, so it is easy for our students to find something they enjoy. Look at the Course Guide Book for a list of all the physical education classes.

VARSITY SPORTS

FootballJoin the thousands of other wind turbine fans in supporting our varsity sports. Our impressive list of titles and All-American athletes shows what a deep-rooted tradition sports are at TDU. Our most recent successes are the 2008 women's field-hockey team title and the Peach Bowl appearance of our 2008 football team! GO TURBS!!!

FITNESS CENTERS

On campus you will find three state-of-the-art fitness centers. They offer flexible hours of operation so that they are available at most hours of the day and night. There are two Olympic size swimming pools, group classes such as aerobics, cycling and yoga, hundreds of machines and weight benches and they are staffed with knowledgeable students (many of whom are studying exercise science).

MASCOT

Our mascot was recently changed to the Wind Turbines! Originally we were the wind mills, but we thought that wind turbines were more representative of our progressive attitude and our commitment to education and technology.
